The Retail Mediation Activity Report
"Excel" based Working Paper
The Financial Services Authority (FSA) requires registered companies to complete regular Retail Mediation Activity Reports (RMAR). One of the immediate things that becomes apparent on completing the RMAR is that the input forms do not contain any calculations. Totals and sub-totals must be completed from your working papers. The connectivity between the balance sheet, profit and loss account, schedules D1-Regulatory Capital and D2/D3 Financial Resources must be assured before completing the RMAR.
I have found that constant reference to previous schedules can lead to errors and frustrations when attempting to complete the RMAR. Consequently I designed an "Excel" based solution to the completion of the RMAR. The spreadsheet contains 14 sheets that have pre-installed connectivity where appropriate. Some sheets, predominantly the later schedules that contain COB data, Sales Data, Training and Competence and Threshold conditions, do not require connectivity. The key schedules containing the financial information do have such connectivity. Schedules D1 and D2 or D3 take numbers from the balance sheet, profit and loss account, Fees Data and PI data to minimise the number of times you have to flip between the various pages.
